Project on Youth & Non‑military Opportunities

Young people don't have to join the military to learn valuable skills, find adventure, pay for college or serve others.

Who we serve

We primarily serve young people who are looking for job training, wish to go to college or want to make a difference in other people's lives -- but they might not see enough opportunities to pursue these goals. We also work with educators and others who advise young people, and we support young people organizing to change their communities.

Ways to actively help

There are many ways that you can play a role in the work that we do. We rely on military veterans, students, parents, educators and others who contribute their time giving presentations to young people, doing school outreach, raising funds, and planning actions.

How we are funded

We rely on the support of individuals and community groups for 80% of our annual budget. Occasional foundation support brings in the remaining income required to fund our community outreach, production of materials, and support for youth activism and empowerment.

Project YANO marks 40 years resisting militarism

Tuesday, 11 February 2025 by Project YANO

In 1984, four San Diego peace and civil rights groups came together to form Project YANO, challenging military recruiters in high schools, who target students from working-class communities of color. Join us in marking 40 years with a tax deductible donation: https://givebutter.com/yano40
