After giving presentations at conferences and schools, we are often approached by high school
counselors who converse daily with students interested in joining the military after they
graduate. School counselors want advice on how to talk to young people about this life-
changing decision. Here are some ideas for them to consider when discussing the military with

A flier distributed to San Diego teacher union members during a successful strike in 1996. While almost all other teachers respected the picket lines, all 21 of the district's JROTC instructors crossed them. Note that JROTC textbook quotes on the flier are from books that have since been revised and may not contain the same text.
